Smash half term with kids in Knightsbridge

As January comes to an end, many parents are already turning their thoughts to the half term week. Keeping the kids entertained when the weather is cold can seem daunting, but with our top suggestions you’re sure to smash the school holidays. Here’s a rundown of things to do with your family.

Head to a museum

Knightsbridge is home to both the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Paradox Museum. The V&A is hosting a selection of workshops and drop-in sessions during February half term where fashion-forward kids can make a drawstring bag and budding digital designers can invent, sketch and animate their own characters. There’s also a School of Confidence workshop where kids can explore how to strut their stuff with assured poise.

Meanwhile the Paradox Museum encourages adults and children to look at life from a different perspective. Experience zero gravity, play with camouflage and find out how simple tricks can shift your perception entirely.

Shop in Harrods

Whether the kids are in need of some new clothes for the spring season or they’re keen to browse the toy department on the fourth floor, a trip to Harrods is sure to deliver something they’ll enjoy. Jellycat fans will love browsing their favourite characters in the store’s exclusive boutique, set in a travel-inspired concept space.

Sample international cuisine

Looking to expand your kids’ culinary horizons? A trip to an Indian restaurant in South Kensington, London is sure to expose their tastebuds to new flavours. Bordering Knightsbridge, South Kensington is home to Little India, where authentic Indian cuisine meets British culture. Kids will enjoy sampling samosas or exploring vibrant dishes such as biryani and chicken tandoori, all made with the freshest ingredients.

Play in the park

The edge of Knightsbridge meets Hyde Park, which offers endless opportunities for exploration and play – even when the weather is inclement. Take a football for a kick around, go hunting for mini beasts or go for a bike ride along the winding paths. There are plenty of playgrounds for the kids to have fun on too.

If you want to explore the park’s history, download a free augmented reality app and visit the south side. This was the site of the Great Exhibition in 1851, and with the app you can walk around a digital recreation of the Crystal Palace and discover fascinating stories about events within it.

Get inspired

Have you got budding performers in the family? Why not spark their imagination with a trip to the Royal Albert Hall to see Cirque du Soleil’s OVO? Running throughout February half term, it’s a chance to see world-class acrobats, aerial artists and dancers showcase their skills to a rhythmic, Brazilian-inspired score. With colourful characters and high-energy performances, it’s a fun and lively spectacle that children are sure to enjoy.
