Must-visit London museum exhibitions this summer

The summer is a great time to explore London, and many of the museums in the South Kensington area host some of their most exciting exhibitions between June and September. From jewellery at the Victoria & Albert Museum to cinematic experiences at the Natural History Museum, there’s something for all ages to explore and engage with. Here are some of the must-visit London exhibitions this season.

Our Story with David Attenborough, Natural History Museum

Sir David Attenborough has become synonymous with nature documentaries, and from 19 June 2025, you can immerse yourself in the epic tale of our planet, presented by the veteran naturalist and broadcaster. In this 360-degree viewing experience the walls and floor around you burst into life, depicting the evolution of Earth from its birth to the present day. You’ll also see our human story unfold and hear a personal message of hope from Sir David.

Cartier, Victoria & Albert Museum

Cartier has an incredible legacy of art, design and craftsmanship which began in the mid-19th century. This exhibition charts the evolution of the brand’s work, showcasing over 350 jewels, gemstones, watches and clocks. From a brooch owned by Princess Margaret to pieces from the collection of the Jacques Cartier family, it offers a stunning and intriguing glimpse into the company and its masterpieces.

Space Trail, Science Museum

The Science Museum is going all-out to engage children this summer with its Space Trail, inspired by Disney and Pixar’s new film, Elio. Families can channel their inner space explorer by picking up a trail and finding game-changing space objects around the museum. There are also mini challenges to complete – and when you’ve finished the trail there’s a badge waiting for you in the Energy Hall

Kids will also love the interactive Power Up gallery, which explores 50 years of gaming, showcasing retro games such as Pacman right through to the latest virtual reality experiences.

Kurt Cobain Unplugged, Royal College of Music Museum

Kurt Cobain and Nirvana defined a generation, and this intimate exhibition explores the band’s iconic 1993 MTV Unplugged performance – one of their final TV performances before Cobain’s untimely death. Exhibits include the singer’s rare Martin-D-18E guitar, which was uniquely adapted for his left-handed play, as well as his olive-green mohair cardigan, worn during the MTV Unplugged set. You can also enjoy insights into Cobain’s songwriting and learn just how influential Nirvana were in changing the face of rock music.

Splash!, Design Museum

Whether you’re a keen swimmer or more of a paddler, you’ll love this exhibition that celebrates our passion for water. Exploring everything from sports performance to swimwear styles over the past 100 years, Splash! takes a look at the social, cultural and environmental aspects of swimming. You’ll see objects such as the first women’s Olympic solo swimming gold medal, a selection of eye-catching Speedos and even Pamela Anderson’s iconic Baywatch swimsuit. The exhibition runs until 17 August 2025.
